NJDEP Resilient Environment and Landscapes (REAL)
On August 5, the NJDEP introduced sweeping changes to land use regulations through the Resilient Environments and Landscapes (REAL) Rule proposal. The more than 1,000-page rule proposal will significantly impact municipalities across the state. Review the League's October 11 blog post: "NJDEP's REAL Rule Proposal: A Seismic Shift for NJ Municipalities" for a summary of the REAL proposal.
League members are encouraged to review the REAL Rule proposal to better understand how these changes would impact your community. These specific concerns should be shared with NJDEP through the rule comment process, and we ask that you also share a copy of any comments sent to the NJDEP with the League.
The League has established a working group to review the REAL Rule proposal and plans to submit our own comments. Comments on the proposal are accepted through November 3, 2024. The NJDEP has indicated that final rules will be adopted in the summer of 2025.
