Registration for the Local Infrastructure Hub (LIH) Bootcamps, supported by the League’s federal partner, the National League of Cities and Bloomberg Philanthropies, is open for sessions this spring and summer. Cities nationwide have secured over $2 billion in federal funding for infrastructure projects since the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
These free boot camps are designed to provide municipalities with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively navigate and leverage federal grant opportunities. The sessions will focus on the following grants:
- Bridge Investment: Grant funding focused on reducing the number of bridges in poor condition or that are in fair condition but at risk.
- Reconnecting Communities & Neighborhoods: Grant funding focused on removing surface transportation structures (e.g., highways or viaducts) to increase connectivity in disadvantaged or underserved communities, as well as planning/capacity-building activities in these communities.
- Brownfields: Grant funding for communities seeking site assessment, cleanup, or multipurpose grants for brownfield sites-sites with known or possible contamination from prior use.
- Railroad Crossing Improvements and Safety Improvements: Grant funding for highway-rail or pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects, promoting safety and mobility for people and goods. Communities can use grant funding for track relocation; improving/installing protective devices, signals, or signs; improving safety; and conducting environmental audits of eligible projects.
- Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling: Grant funding to improve post-consumer materials management and infrastructure, local recycling programs, and help local waste management authorities make improvements to local systems.
Each program involves just one hour a week over a 12-week period. Participation is free but requires advanced registration. Please review the Frequently Asked Questions and reach out to NLC with any questions at LocalInfrastructureHub@nlc.org.
