Available Federal Grants

Below are announcements and application instructions for various competitive federal grants that are available to municipalities that we have not previously shared. We encourage you to review these programs with your Municipal Manager, Public Safety Director, and other personnel as appropriate. 

 

Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program

 

The Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program establishes and funds a $1 billion program for the construction, improvement, or acquisition of middle mile infrastructure. Middle-mile infrastructure means any broadband infrastructure that does not connect directly to an end-user location, including an anchor institution.

 

The purpose of the grant program is to expand and extend middle-mile infrastructure to reduce the cost of connecting unserved and underserved areas to the internet backbone. The deadline is September 30, 2022.

 

National Archives Public Engagement with Historical Records Grant Opportunity

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) seeks projects that encourage public engagement with historical records, including the development of new tools that enable people to engage online. The grants support projects that promote access to America’s historical records to encourage understanding of our democracy, history, and culture. The deadline to apply is October 6, 2022.

National Archives Archival Projects Grant Opportunity 

The NHPRC seeks archival projects that will significantly improve online public discovery and use of historical records collections. We welcome projects that engage the public, expand civic education, and promote understanding of the nation’s history, democracy, and culture from the founding era to the present day. The deadline to apply is October 6, 2022

Community Wildfire Defense Grant

The grant provides funding for two primary project types, the development and revision of Community Wildfire Protection Plans or the implementation of projects described in a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that is less than 10 years old. The deadline to apply is October 7, 2022.

Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (HTPCP)

 

The Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (HTPCP) supports innovative, community-based initiatives to improve the health status of infants, children, adolescents, and families in rural and other underserved communities by increasing their access to preventive care and services. The deadline to apply is October 12, 2022.


 Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program

 

Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program will restore community connectivity by removing, retrofitting, or mitigating highways or other transportation facilities that create barriers to community connectivity, including to mobility, access, or economic development. The deadline to apply is October 13, 2022.

 

USDA Biofuel Infrastructure Grants

 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the availability of $100 million in grants with the goal of helping to increase the sale and use of biofuels derived from U.S. agricultural products. The program will market higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel by sharing the costs to build and retrofit biofuel-related infrastructure such as pumps, dispensers, and storage tanks. Municipal and county governments, along with certain non-profits and businesses, are eligible to receive grant money. The deadline to apply is November 21, 2022.

 

FY22 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Grant Program

 

The CRISI program makes available $1.427 billion in funding for capital projects that will improve passenger and freight rail transportation systems in terms of safety, efficiency, or reliability. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2022.
