P.L. 2025, c. 222, which took effect January 12, expands the list of positions authorized to perform marriages and civil unions to include municipal clerks. This Lunch & Learn will explain the new law and provide guidance and insights for municipal clerks performing weddings and civil unions. The Lunch & Learn will be held on Friday, March 6, at 12 noon.

On Thursday, April 24, the League hosted a lunch and learn concerning Energy Tax Receipts and Public Notices.  

The League outlined Governor Murphy’s proposed FY2026 budget, specifically noting no allocation from Municipal Relief Funding and flat funding for Energy Tax Receipts. Additionally, the League highlighted the legislation concerning public notices and the extended deadline of June 30th.

On Monday, April 14, the League hosted a Lunch and Learn session on the Governor’s proposed FY2026 budget and addressed policy regarding the State Health Benefits Plan and land use legislation.

On or before April 30, local officials must submit their annual financial disclosure statement (FDS) using the online filing system of the Local Finance Board. However, municipal clerks must first prepare and maintain the roster of local government officials required to file the FDS. Join us on March 24 at noon for Lunch & Learn with Nick Bennett, Executive Secretary, Local Finance Board, and Cherie Saranin, Administrative Analyst, as they review the process and answer any questions you may have as you finalize your roster.

The League had a Lunch & Learn with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority on the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) Program and is available for viewing, as is the slide deck, and sample opt-in ordinance.  

The program will provide a new form of financing for renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, and certain types of resiliency-related improvements for New Jersey. Repayment for these investments is made via special assessment, like a sewer charge, and thus municipalities must opt-in to participate in the C-PACE program. 

Municipalities must opt-in to participate in the program and it does not have a cost attached.
