Energy Transmission Bill to Allow Wires on Preserved Farmland Passes Committee 

On Thursday, the Senate Environment and Energy Committee favorably reported S-4690, which bypasses local authority and authorizes certain energy projects involving the installation of transmission and distribution wires that cross preserved farmland.

Senate Judiciary Committee Advances S-3470 on Cyber-Harrassment

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced S-3470, which upgrades cyber-harassment of a public servant or family member of a public servant to a third-degree crime and establishes Office of Cyber-Harassment Support.

Bill S-4396 on Public Defenders Advances in the Senate 

Bill S-4396 was heard before the Senate Judiciary on December 15. The bill concerns municipal public defenders and repeals N.J.S.A. 2B:24-17.

Legislation Creates Regulations Surrounding Hemp-Derived Products  

On Monday, the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee favorably reported Senate Committee substitute for S-4509, which creates a regulatory scheme in line with federal law on sale of certain hemp-derived cannabinoid products.
