The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Assembly Budget Committee are scheduled to meet on Thursday to finalize decisions on the FY2026 budget.

Bill Requiring Public Notices on Municipal Websites Committee Hearing Thursday

Bill S-4654, which provides a permanent solution to the requirement of publishing public notices online will be considered by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee Thursday, June 26.

HMFA Proposed New UHAC Regulations

Pursuant to P.L. 2024, c. 2, (A-4), the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJ-HMFA) has approved for publication the proposed 2025 Uniform Housing Affordability Controls (UHAC) regulations. This follows the adoption of emergency regulations last year.

Private Inspection Bill Amended to Permit Municipalities to Retain Fees 

The Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee favorably reported S-4501, with amendments to permit private on-site inspection agencies to complete construction code inspections under any circumstances.

Fire District Water Service Charge Bill Advances

The League opposes A-5538 which prohibits municipal utilities authority from charging fire district and fire department water service charges for fire protection as it forces other utility users to subsidize the cost of the fire district.

League Opposes Legislation Creating Mobile Driver's License

The League has serious reservations about A-3518/S-1297 which creates mobile driver’s license and identification cards. Municipal governments will have to purchase scanning devices to read the electronic cards and there are potential privacy concerns.

Mayor Jeffrey Martin Steps Up to NJLM 2nd VP

The Assembly State and Local Government Committee amended and released A-5240, which concerns local unit budget processes and related operations. Our recent blog post provides more detail information on the changes made in A-5240/S-3941.

Bureau of Land Management Grant Opportunities

Municipalities can now access new federal support through the Bureau of Land Management’s FY25 grant portfolio to tackle wildfire mitigation, restore natural habitats, and strengthen infrastructure.
