State Health Benefits Open Enrollment Period Begins 

The State Health Benefits Open Enrollment Period began on October 1 and closes on October 31, 2024. For more information on changes for Plan Year 2025, please read the League’s recent blog post.

Governor Signs Historic Property and Brownfield Reinvestment Bill 

On September 30, Governor Murphy signed A-4619, which modifies certain provisions of Historic Property Reinvestment and Brownfields Redevelopment Incentive programs.

DLGS Issues LFN 2024-13 on Best Practices Inventory     

The Division of Local Government Services has issued Local Finance Notice 2024-13 which released the Best Practices Inventory to all municipalities. The Best Practices Inventory is due Friday, October 25, 2024.

Legislation Introduced to Increase SALT Deduction Cap 

Senator Helmy & Congresswoman Sherrill introduced Tax Relief for Middle-Class Families legislation to increase the SALT deduction cap from $10,000 to $100,000, increasing the cap that was implemented with the passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

NEW for 2024:  Hear from the Candidates for Governor

Be sure to join us for a first at the Conference. NJ Spotlight News Senior Political Correspondent David Cruz will be taping a special episode of his NJ PBS program “Chat Box”  on the exhibit floor at the League. This program will feature declared candidates running for Governor in 2025. The program will be recorded on the morning of Thursday, November 21, 2024. More details will follow in the upcoming weeks.

Kevin Lyons, Legal Protection Plan Administrator & Health Benefits Coordinator for New Jersey State PBA, will guide you through the process of reviewing and selecting a health benefit plan for open enrollment. He will explain how to compare different plans, understand the terminology used, and make the best choice for your needs.

League Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 Innovation in Governance Awards Program

Through our annual recognition program, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and the New Jersey League of Municipalities (NJLM) will again acknowledge and promote Innovation in Governance. This is a great opportunity to showcase innovative solutions to any problems that have cropped up in your municipality. It can also be an opportunity to let your peers in on innovations that prevent problems from arising. The Innovation in Governance Awards Committee is looking for new and distinctive approaches in any municipal government department. You can apply through our new online application process this year, or simply print and send it via email or mail! The nomination deadline is Friday, October 25, 2024.
