On Monday, August 5th, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) published in the New Jersey Register proposed rules that the DEP states will make New Jersey the first state to modernize land resource protection regulations that address climate change's ongoing and future impacts.
This proposal would represent comprehensive changes to the land-use regulations for New Jersey communities. These updates, collectively known as the Resilient Environments And Landscapes (REAL) reforms, were developed after extensive stakeholder engagement.
Three public hearings are planned based on the 90-day public comment period. Check out the full proposal on REAL’s website. The first hearing is in-person (details can be found below), and the last two are virtual. More details about the hearings are as follows:
