[ARCHIVED] Governor Murphy Announces Advanced Clean Cars Proposal

Governor Phil Murphy announced New Jersey has signed the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) proposal. The goal of the ACCII is to have zero-emission vehicles make up 100% of new light-duty vehicle sales by 2035. While the proposal does not impose obligations on consumers or automotive dealers, it introduces a tax credit for manufacturers as a flexibility measure. This comes as part of Governor Murphy’s commitment to combat the climate crisis, aligning with the Paris Agreement goals.

The State has also signed the Accelerating to Zero Coalition’s Zero Emission Vehicle Declaration, reaffirming its commitment to a zero-emission future. This global agreement was launched at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and has been signed by numerous national governments and regional authorities.

In addition to policy measures, financial resources have been allocated to support the transition. The recently adopted state budget includes a $10 million appropriation to support the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road, as part of a broader $75 million investment made in the FY2024 budget by the Murphy Administration into EVs and charging stations.
