Acting Administrative Director of the Courts, Judge Glenn Grant, issued a Notice to the Bar this week regarding the resumption of driver’s license and registration suspensions for parking ticket violations beginning October 1.
According to the Notice, this returns to the legislative framework following a temporary adjustment during the Covid-19 pandemic, when some people could not reasonably attend to parking tickets due to the public health emergency.
Starting October 1, 2024, defendants who have not appeared in court or have not satisfied an outstanding parking ticket will receive individualized notices informing them of options, including to contact the court or to make payments using NJMCdirect. Those notices will specifically advise defendants that penalties will be imposed if they do not respond or pay the parking ticket.
Consistent with Directive #12-21 ("Municipal Courts -- Time Payment Plans and Payment Alternatives"), payment arrangements will be available for any person who appears in court and is ordered to pay their parking ticket. Defendants who do not contact the court or otherwise appear will be subject to penalties consistent with the law.
Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the AOC Municipal Court Services Division at 609-815-2900, ext. 54850.
